So one of my best friends and his bride got me a fabulous Birthday gift. (My birthday was in April but we haven’t had a chance to exchange gifts because life got busy!) Anyway, they got me a great gift! I enjoyed all 101 dang good reasons to live in Texas, but this is my top ten.

10. A beer now and then never hurt anything.

9. The San Antonio River Walk on a Saturday night.

8. The Lone Star flying high all over the place.

7. Howard Hughes.

6. We gave the world Dr. Pepper.

5. We could show other states how to fix barbecue if they would only let us.

4. Lyle.

3. Bluebonnets.

2. Are you a Republic like we are? Oh well, keep working on it.

Potter thoughts below the cut

July 28, 2007 · Leave a Comment

I think I’m suffering from Post-Potter Depression. Thankfully I have a Real Salt Lake game to watch tonight and it is keeping my mind off the fact that Harry Potter’s time in my life has ended.

What to know what I think? Click below.

a humbling gift

July 27, 2007 · 1 Comment

Yesterday was an awful day for me. I’m really sick right now thanks to the large amount of narcotics I must consume in order to make it through the day. I’m having surgery next Wednesday and it won’t come soon enough. I can’t wait to get off these drug and not have this excruciating back pain anymore.

Thing after thing seemed to go wrong yesterday. After breaking a glass in the kitchen, I sat on the kitchen floor and had a good cry. (I needed one.) There I was crying and thinking about how much my day was sucking when the doorbell rang.

Not expecting any visitors I assumed it was a package for my father. His letters seem to be bringing more and more free useless stuff to our door. (Like an entire case of Stok.) I hopped up to see what was delivered. Much to my surprise I open the door and find something that was addressed to me.

My lovely and dear friend Abigail had sent me yellow roses (since I’m a Texas girl) to brighten my day and remind me that she loves me. It could not have come at a more appropriate time. It humbled me and reminded me how blessed I am. Abby gives the best hugs and I completely miss them. Getting these flowers was like getting an Abby hug all the way from China!

The Lord has put so many wonderful, loving and supportive people in my life. He reminded me that I was a fool for crying because my life is one that has been touched by the love and the comfort that Jesus Christ has to offer. That alone is all I need, but it is not all I’ve been given. The love of my family and friends is truly a wonderful bonus that I seem to forever take for granted.

I truly pray that I become more mindful of all those who love me and all that God has provided. I hate being a selfish, narrow minded, sinner. I’m am surrounded with love and support from everywhere. I need to be more thankful of that.

Abigail, thank you so much. Your tea, granola bars, and a few other surprises are on their way to you! I’m glad you are loving China, but I think your next move should be back to Texas because I love you and miss you.

Sarah & John

July 25, 2007 · Leave a Comment

I did a post a while back on my brother and his girlfriend. I decided it was time to do a post on my sister and her future husband. They are getting married next summer and I adore John, so I wanted to share some of the things I love about him, and that you should too.

1. He is always up for a good party. Here he is dressed as Maverick from Top Gun for Halloween. My sister was Tinkerbell.

2. He loves Sarah even on days when she feels yucky.

3. He gets along with all of her friends.

4. Both John and Sarah are always there when the other needs a good hug.

5. John loves to help me cook and learn new cooking techniques. Here he is making a mirepoix for Turkey soup on Thanksgiving Day.

006.jpg

6. They take lots of naps together. When John’s truck is parked out front and you can’t find John or Sarah, chance are they are asleep somewhere.

007.jpg

7. He fits right into our family. He spent Christmas with us and it was as if he’d always been in our lives.

008.jpg

8. He and Joe get along great and are good friends. Like Joe said, “He’s the first guy who can kiss Sarah and I don’t immediately want to kick his ass.”

9. He is always up for a drink, or trying out some new shot. I have spent many Friday and Saturday nights concocting new drinks with John.

010.jpg

10. He does chores at our house. My mom always puts him to work and he likes helping out.

011.jpg

11. He loves playing games and has a great prankster attitude. Here he is having a silly string fight with my sister on Christmas day.

013.jpg

12. He cleans up well and has good manners.

014.jpg

13. He’s pretty dang good at beer pong.

015.jpg

14. He a true southern gentleman.

016.jpg

15. He likes going out with Sarah. It could be to a movie or to a dance club. Either way, they both genuinely enjoy date nights.

017.jpg

16. He makes Sarah very, very happy.

018.jpg

17. I think he is the only person I’ve ever met who as just as silly and goofy as my sister.

019.jpg

18. He’s not afraid to get dirty.

19. They both love and respect each other immensely. They have a God honoring relationship that makes me so proud to be Sarah’s sister. (Plus…you know they will have super cute babies.)

Quotes

July 24, 2007 · 1 Comment

Today I was making sure my day planner was nice and tidy. One of the things I had to clean out was a bunch of tiny pieces of paper with random quotes on them. (I adore quotes and write them down when I find a good one.)

I thought I’d share a few that I found entertaining.

“From what we get, we can make a living; what we give, however, makes a life.” – Arthur Ashe

“In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.” -Martin Luther King Jr.

“Tolerance? I’m the Mahatma fricking Ghandi of tolerance.” -John Safran

“Southern girls are God’s gift to the entire male population. There is absolutely no woman finer than one raised below the Mason-Dixon Line and once you go southern, may the good Lord help you… you never go back.” –Kenny Chesney

“I feel sorry for people that don’t drink…
…When they wake up that is as good as they’re going to feel all day.” – Frank Sinatra

“Even if I knew that tomorrow the world would go to pieces, I would still plant my apple tree.” -Martin Luther

“It’s a funny old world.” -Dame Margaret Thatcher

“You must submit to supreme suffering in order to discover the completion of joy.” -John Calvin

uh…uh….duh!

So there I was today.  Paul McCartney had just bought Starbucks for my mother and I.  We had just jumped back in the car and were putting on our seat belts.  As we are doing so we watch the lady who was in line behind us head out to her car.  She places her adorable six month old baby on the sidewalk while she walks her coffee out to her car.  I was pretty much appalled at ranking the ‘bucks above the baby, but what I saw next disturbed me even more.

Her Starbucks beverage was placed every so gently in a cup holder.  Her baby was set on the back seat.  (Not fastened into anything.)  And she drove off…WITHOUT securing her child in the car.  I was simply stunned by this.  It truly was one of the most appalling things I’ve seen in a long while.  It made my heart sad.

In other news the Discovery Channel is reporting that catch and release angling injures fish.  No shit, Sherlock!  How long did it take you to figure that one out?

Finally, as a random comment: I love sitting at work on this Saturday working on the company website just because I get to talk about “the code” like I’m a pirate.

Wysocki Whereabouts

July 20, 2007 · 1 Comment

Well despite the Harry Potter let down (you were right Steve) it has still been a rather eventful time in the Wysocki household.  Here is what everyone is up to…

My father is busy working on his art.  Tomorrow morning he is delivering a piece to The Orange Show Center for Visionary Art.  They have plans to show it as well as auction it off in their annual fundraiser.  Be sure to go check it out.  We are all excited about it.

My mother is continuing to hold the family together as well as grow her business.  They have just taken on several new partners.  They are trying their hardest to slow work down but the demand is so great that it is hard to turn things down.

My brother is enjoying the remainder of the summer as much as he can.  He spent the first half of the summer taking some summer classes.  Now he is volunteering everyday at a local assistance ministry.  All his free time is being spent with his friends and his lovely girlfriend, Erin.

My sister is cleaning out her room.  She has a storage space with her future husband, John, and has been busy moving stuff into storage with him.  It is so sad to see her room become more and more empty every day.  I’m very excited for her and John but it is sad to see her go.

Dixie and Dunhill are keeping busy.  Every Friday is “New Bandana Friday” for Dunhill.  He loves wearing bandanas and gets truly excited when you get a new one for him.  He sat patiently as I put on a nice red bandana today.  He looks totally handsome.  Dixie is helping in the Harry Potter watch by barking like mad every time someone steps on our property.

I’m trying to stay out of pain.  I’m having excruciating back pain thanks to ovarian cysts.  I’ve been given a huge shot of hormones and we are hoping that will help.  If it doesn’t I get to have surgery (which we are trying to avoid).  Prayers would be appreciated as I’m in pain and get to come off of narcotics all over again.

Also, we are about to start up with a bible study again on Thursday nights which I’m looking forward to.  (My parents jokingly say that they are doing this to balance out their Tuesday Poker Night.)

So that is what is keeping us busy.  I hope all is well with my readers.  Miss Abigail, I miss you!  China is very lucky to have you.  Mrs. Duncan, you rock!  :-*

“In transit to final destination.”

Yes, be cool my babies.  Harry Potter will be here today.  Dunhill and I are excited…even if you aren’t.
